Passive Scalar in a Turbulent Channel Flow with Wall Velocity Disturbances
نویسندگان
چکیده
Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of a passive scalar in a turbulent channel flow with a normal velocity disturbance on the lower wall are presented for high and low Reynolds numbers. The aim is to reproduce the complex physics of turbulent rough flows without dealing with the geometric complexity. In addition, isothermal walls that cannot be easily assigned in an experiment, are considered. The paper explains the increase of heat transfer through the changes of the velocity and thermal structures. As in real rough flows, the transpiration produces an isotropization of the turbulence near the wall.

Transport of Passive Scalars in Turbulent Channel Flow
A direct numerical simulation of a turbulent channel flow with three passive scalars at different molecular Prandtl numbers is performed. Computed statistics including the turbulent Prandtl numbers are compared with existing experimental data. The computed fields are also examined to investigate the spatial structure of the scalar fields. The scalar fields are highly correlated with the streamw...
متن کاملEffect of Surface Roughness on Small-Scale Velocity and Scalar Characteristics in a Turbulent Channel Flow
Using DNS data in a turbulent channel flow, the paper examines the effect of the surface geometry on the vorticity and (passive) scalar gradient vectors at a relatively small Reynolds number and for a molecular Prandtl number of 1. While a strong correlation between these two vector fields is expected close to the wall when the latter is smooth, significant changes occur when the surface is mod...
متن کاملSimultaneous estimation of heat fluxes applied to the wall of a channel with turbulent flow using inverse analysis
The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field, two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...
متن کاملTurbulent Drag Reduction by Spanwise Wall Oscillations
The objective of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of wall oscillation as a control scheme of drag reduction. Two flow configurations are considered: constant flow rate and constant mean pressure gradient. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using Fourier-Chebyshev spectral methods and the oscillation in sinusoidal form is enforced on the walls through boundary conditions for the sp...
متن کاملProbability density function modeling of scalar mixing from concentrated sources in turbulent channel flow
Dispersion of a passive scalar from concentrated sources in fully developed turbulent channel flow is studied with the probability density function PDF method. The joint PDF of velocity, turbulent frequency and scalar concentration is represented by a large number of Lagrangian particles. A stochastic near-wall PDF model combines the generalized Langevin model of Haworth and Pope Phys. Fluids 2...
